Overview

Since 1994, this highly interactive four day course has provided trainers and educators with materials, insights, and confidence to teach ethics to law enforcement audiences. Graduates of the course have come from law enforcement organizations across the United States, Canada, Great Britain, South America, and the Middle East.

Successful completion of this program has authorized graduates to present the eight hour Law Enforcement Ethics and the sixteen hour Ethics for Field Training Officers courses within their own agencies or local/regional academies. 

Tuition

Tuition includes all instruction and handouts. Lodging and meals are excluded.

Since 1993, the Ethics Train-the-Trainer course has graduated over 10,000 law enforcement trainers, Course graduates have been drawn from over 750 agencies across the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Romania and Peru.

Faculty

Gregory Smith, M.A.
Director

Mr. Gregory Smith is Director of the Institute for Law Enforcement Institute (ILEA). Prior to his appointment as Director, Gregory served ILEA for more than 17 years as Associate Director. From 1990-1999, Mr. Smith was an officer with the Baylor University-Medical Police Department in Dallas. He served in Patrol and managed the Crime Prevention and Community Services Section. In addition, Gregory served more than 21 years with the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve.

Gregory holds a B.S. degree in Sociology from Ball State University with a Minor in Multi-Cultural Education and Military Science. He also holds a M.A. degree in Sociology, (specializing in Social Psychology) from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Richard N. Holden, Ph.D.
Scholar-in-Residence

Richard N. Holden serves part-time with the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration as Scholar-in-Residence. Dr. Holden oversees the Center for Law Enforcement Ethics. The Ethics Center is one of the earliest forums developed specifically to focus a critical dialogue on ethical issues in policing. In addition, Dr. Holden is a Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of North Texas at Dallas, a position he began in September 2010.

Holden holds a Ph.D. in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University, a M.S. degree in human relations and management, and a B.S. degree in criminal justice from Abilene Christian University.

TCOLE Credit

Law enforcement personnel attending this course are eligible for twenty-eight (28) hours of Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) credit.

Course Cancellation Policy

Occasionally, the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration (ILEA) may be forced to cancel a scheduled program. Whenever possible, the decision to cancel is made at least fourteen days prior to the start of the program, and registered participants are notified once that decision has been made. If the distance to the training site requires that you make airline and/or hotel reservations, please contact ILEA (+1.972.244.3430) to inquire about the status of any program before making travel arrangements. While paid registrations in cancelled courses will be refunded in full, ILEA will not be responsible for monetary loss due to cancellations or changes in airline or hotel reservations.
