Overview

The arrival of the Trump Administration and Republican control of the 115th Congress is fundamentally changing the outlook for energy companies in the United States. In the Congress, a bipartisan energy bill has been placed on the Senate calendar that would place deadlines on the regulators to approve pipelines and LNG export facilities while the House recently passed legislation to ease permitting authority for cross-border pipelines and power transmission and improve coordination of pipeline permitting between federal and state authorities. At the same time, President Trump has committed to deconstruct the administrative staff and has issued a series of executive orders to promote domestic energy production and remove regulatory roadblocks to expanding energy infrastructure, advance the construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines, and reopen off-shore areas to oil and gas exploration and development. Jamie Tucker, a partner at Akin Gump, will discuss the current opportunities for Congress to adopt pro-growth policies to expand domestic energy production. Kelly Johnson, a partner at Holland & Hart, will provide an overview and update on activities within the federal agencies of interest to the energy sector.
