ITA Welcomes Wade Coriell as Its New Deputy Editor of News and Notes

At its annual meeting in Dallas in June, the ITA’s Executive Committee appointed Wade M. Coriell as deputy editor of the organization’s quarterly newsletter News and Notes, to serve with editor Stephen Wallace.

Wade, a native of Houston, is a partner in the Houston office of ITA Sustaining Member King & Spalding LLP, where he practices in the firm’s international arbitration group. With a B.S. degree from Georgetown University and a J.D. from Harvard, his practice focuses on representing foreign investors in disputes with host governments and private parties in international commercial disputes. He has represented clients before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the American Arbitration Association (AAA), the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague (PCA), and other international and domestic arbitral institutions. Wade’s experience includes investment and commercial disputes in Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, with particularly strong expertise in the energy sector. His recent cases include a $100 million award against the government of Ecuador for unduly delaying seven commercial cases filed against the government by a U.S. oil company in Ecuadorian courts, and a $50 million award on behalf of ConocoPhillips for breach of a farm-out agreement concerning gas exploration in China.  Wade has won significant arbitral awards against the governments of Argentina, Ecuador, and Turkey, and he currently represents investors in disputes with the governments of Argentina, Ecuador, and Venezuela. In the 2010 edition of The Global Arbitration Review 100, he was named a “lawyer to know.” Since 2005, Texas Super Lawyers and Texas Monthly have annually named him a “Rising Star” in international law, and The Latin Lawyer recommends him as a top international arbitration practitioner.
