If you missed our live programs, Annual Program: Establishing Innocence or Guilt (Aug. 30, 2017) and Habeas Issues (Aug. 31, 2017), you still have a chance to "attend". Some speaker presentations were recorded and will be available to view online for a limited time! Registration closes Monday, October 23, 2017. 

Access to these recordings will only be available from November 1-30, 2017. An email will be sent to registrants on November 1, 2017 with a link and password to access the recordings.

Tuition

These programs were funded by a grant from the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Thanks to the grant, the video recordings are offered tuition-free to most registrants for a limited time. MCLE credit will be available. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer TCOLE Credit for this program. Details will be posted once available. Note: credit will only be available for those who did not attend and claim credit for the live programs.

Tuition-free registration is available for the following constituents:

  • Texas State judge
  • Texas State judge’s staff
  • Texas State prosecutor
  • Texas State prosecutor’s staff
  • Texas criminal defense lawyer who regularly represents indigent defendants in criminal matters in Texas State Courts
  • Paralegal, investigator and/or mitigation expert of a Texas criminal defense lawyer who regularly represents indigent defendants in criminal matters in Texas State Courts
  • Sworn Texas Law Enforcement Officer
  • Texas Law Student

Tuition* is required for all other registrants at the cost of: $50.00 per program day.

*Tuition will be used to cover future ex­penses of CAIL’s Innocence grant programs or to provide for items the grant cannot suf­ficiently cover.

August 30, 2017 Recording: Annual Program

This program explores topics ranging from ethics, Texas CIUs, to Brady & The Michael Morton Act. This program also includes a presentation on how law enforcement officers, prosecutors and defense lawyers can do a better job of protecting & evaluating eyewitness evidence.

August 31, 2017 Recording: Habeas Issues

Useful for habeas practitioners and their staff, and for trial lawyers and their staff who want to steer clear of post-trial problems, this program includes sessions on trial counsel’s ethical duty post-conviction, an update on case law from TXCCA, the high bar for actual innocence cases and best practices in habeas matters.
